Nigerian filmmaker and writer, Onyeka Nwelue premiered his documentary film, The House of Nwapa yesterday, the 28th at the International Images Film Festival for Women (IIFF) in Harare, Zimbabwe. He was on The Spot on EbonyLife TV to talk about ‘Breaking Grounds,’ as he curates The Diplomatic Jazz Night, a monthly free concert supported by Airtel and Ethiopian Airlines. The film is a string of narratives and interviews about Flora Nwapa, arguably, Africa’s first female novelist, whose first book, Efuru will be 50 years this year. Reacting to the idea of the film, Nobel Laureate, Wole Soyinka said: “I feel really stimulated by the work Nwelue is doing on Flora Nwapa, a 'missing' figure in the overall consciousness of our younger literati generation, so a documentary on her is long overdue.” The House of Nwapa will show at the Lagos Book & Art Festival from the 10-13th November, 2016.
